Otterhead Forest School operates as a traded service.

 

The Forest School is set within approximately 230 acres of mixed woodland on the Blackdown hills above Taunton.  The inspiring and stimulating environment offers students an opportunity to engage in learning in a hands on and personalised way.

Level 2 Award in Outdoor Learning Practice

Delivering the curriculum outdoors can be a little daunting. This course is designed to give classroom teachers the confidence to take their classes into the school grounds to teach the different subjects in an inspiring way.

The three units that make up this award are outlined below.:

1. Supporting Learning, Play and Development in the outdoors. Learners will:

· Understand how outdoor learning and play can support an individual’s development.

· Know how a range of experiences can support learning, play and development.

2. Outdoor Learning Practitioner. Learners will:

· Be able to participate in outdoor learning activities.

· Understand the learning opportunities available in outdoor learning.

· Understand risk/benefit analysis for outdoor learning.

· Be able to deliver outdoor learning.

· Be able to reflect on outdoor learning.

3. Sustainable Use of Natural Resources. Learners will:

· Understand the ecology of a natural learning environment.

· Understand sustainable use of natural resources

 

The course is delivered over two days and a twilight session. It cost £250.

 

Dates: Dec. 12th and 13th, April 2nd and 3rd, June 24th and 25th.

 

Level 2 Award in Assisting at Forest School

This is an introductory course for those wishing to find out more about Forest School ethos or those who are assisting a Forest School Leader.

The course enables you to assist at Forest School and not lead Forest School sessions. The course is portfolio based and usually takes 6 months.

There are four units of study:

¨ Supporting Learning, Play and Development in the Outdoors

¨ Sustainable Use of Natural Resources

¨ Outdoor Practical Skills

¨ Assist at Forest school

The course is delivered over five training days and three half days when you will be assisting at Otterhead Forest School. It cost £450

 

Dates: Jan 10th, 11th, 14th, 15th and 24th 2019 or June 10th, 11th, 19th, 20th and 27th 2019

 

Level 3 Certificate in Forest School Leadership

All Forest School must be delivered by a Level 3 accredited Forest School Leader. This course is designed for those who would like to set up and run Forest School programmes.

There are 5 Units of Study at Level 3:

¨ Supporting Learning, Play and Development in the Outdoors

¨ Observation and Evaluation of Outdoor Learning

¨ Sustainable Use of Natural Resources

¨ Teach Outdoor Practical Skills

¨ Forest school Leader

The course is delivered over five training days, two practical assessment days, one work based assessment and a tutorial session. The course is portfolio based and usually takes nine months to complete. It costs £830

 

Dates: Jan 10th, 11th, 14, 15th and 23rd 2019 or June 10th, 11th, 19th, 20th and 28th
