Intent
Key Stage 4 students are based mainly at the Holway Centre. The curriculum is broad and personalised to meet academic, vocational and SEMH needs, with a focus on preparing for post 16 steps. Academic lessons are taught alongside options which focus on enrichment and vocational activities. All of these form a number of pathways which is personalised to ensure each student is ‘met where they are at’. For all students Careers and Workskills is a big part of their experience, which includes work experience opportunities and opportunities to explore Colleges and Apprenticeships as next steps.
Implementation
Our curriculum is delivered through a relational approach, focussing on nurturing individuals so that they feel safe enough to take risks with their learning. It is important that we get to know each individual so that we can form trusting relationships and then ensure a differentiated approach, both in terms of planning and in the classroom. Our groups are small and led by skilled staff. All ‘lessons’ lead to accreditation with the core curriculum leading to National qualifications such as GCSE’s. Our core consists of English, Maths, Science, Art subject, Citizenship and RSHE.
Impact
All young people are assessed as part of their journey with us to ensure that their plan is appropriate to their needs. We use both learning and SEMH assessments to do this, which builds a clear picture for TDPC to build on, but also to inform next steps.
