Taunton Deane Partnership College
Sport Overview 2023/2024
Key Stage 3-4
Intent
At TDPC, we recognise the importance of Sport and physical activity and the role it has to play in promoting long term, healthy lifestyles and mental health. The intent of our Sport curriculum is to provide all students with the opportunity to engage in a variety of Sport activities. It is our vision to encourage students to lead physically active lifestyles. We strive to inspire our students through fun and engaging Sport lessons that are enjoyable, challenging and accessible to all. We want our students to appreciate the benefits of a healthy and physically active lifestyle. Through our teaching of Sport, we will provide opportunities for students to develop values and transferrable life skills such as compassion, courage, fairness, teambuilding and respect.
Implementation
Students are offered the opportunity to take part in a variety of Sport activities during the week, for example:
Badminton
Football
Gym
Cricket
Tennis
Our curriculum incorporates a variety of sports to encourage students to participate. We want to ensure that students can develop their confidence, tolerance and the appreciation of their own and others’ strengths and weaknesses. This is an inclusive approach which endeavours to encourage not only physical and spiritual development but also well-being.
Impact
Sport is taught as a basis for lifelong learning, where the students have access to a wide range of activities in the belief that if taught well and the students feel successful, then they will continue to have a physically active life. A high-quality inclusive Sport curriculum inspires all children to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities, which are broad and balanced. We provide opportunities for students to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. We have high expectations for our students, and some students have the opportunity to gain AQA Awards accreditation, this enables students to evidence their progress and take pride in their achievements.
